BIA Chair Steve Tasses,  owner of Variety and Video

It all started back in 1997, when BIA Chair Steve Tasses, owner of Variety and Video, 2609 Eglinton Ave West, came across a program sponsored by the City of Toronto, to assist business and property owners with improving their store fronts. In order to take advantage of this “Facade Program“ the participants had to be members of a BIA. Steve set the wheels in motion, thus makingEglinton Hill BIA a reality.

The first order of business was to get this Facade program rolling and the BIA members on board.  Approximately 18 businessestook advantageof the program.

Steve Tasses has been the Chair of the BIA for the last 18 years. He has deep roots in the community. In 1961 his father opened theYork Restaurant at Eglinton and Keele. He attended York Memorial High School, and opened Variety and Video in 1985. Steve has seen 3 generations of families passing through his store over the years. His commitment to the BIA is sincere and on going, with no sign of slowing down.

Eglinton Hill is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the city.  The number of eclecticstores along the Hill is testimony to this. The purpose ofthis website is to profile these businesses andhighlight what they have to offer. Some have been in business for over 40 years. We would like to share their success stories. Eglinton Hill is also a growing community with many new businesses coming into the area.  We will be highlighting these newcomers as well.
